Deep Cleaning with Irrigation Therapy

Cleanings & Prevention

A Deep Cleaning, or Gum Treatment, is reserved for those patients who have moderate to severe periodontitis and need greater attention to remove calculus and tartar below the gums.

Gum Treatment takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour to complete. You will be reminded to come prepared to your appointment by eating, as you will be anesthetized to ensure no discomfort during the procedure. Once numbed, the Doctor or Hygienist will clean deep below your gums to remove calcular build-up, plaque, and granulation tissue. At the end of the cleaning, Irrigation Therapy occurs which is when medicated mouth rinse will be injected into your gums to promote healing. Please note that you will not be able to eat, drink, or rinse for 30 minutes after the treatment. After your Gum Treatment, we will schedule you for a three-month follow-up Periomaintenance, and it is recommended that you see the dentist every three months after to continue to monitor your gum health.

Cleanings and preventive methods are important to maintaining good oral hygiene.
