Cleanings & Prevention

Services

Your gums are so important to us – they protect the bone which serves as the foundation for your teeth. It is caused by bacteria that release a soft buildup material, or “plaque”, on your teeth and gums which can harden and turn into calculus or tartar–a hard, calcified buildup material. Together, bacteria, plaque, and calculus affect the health of your gums, teeth, and bone.

The beginning stage of gum disease is called Gingivitis. Signs of gingivitis include bad breath, redness and swelling in the gums, and bleeding while flossing and brushing.

Periodontitis is the advanced stage of gum disease where the bacteria, plaque, and calculus have moved below the gums and have begun to promote bone loss, which can lead to:

  • Bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth
  • Gum recession
  • Deep pockets between teeth and gums
  • Shifting/loose teeth
  • A change in your bite
  • TOOTH LOSS!

Cleanings and preventive methods are important to maintaining good oral hygiene.
